The Evolution of AOUG
2009 AOUG 21st Birthday Year Celebrations
This was the celebration of 21 years of fellowship of our Association, and special events were held around the Regions and Nations. These ranged from little get-togethers over coffee and celebration cake to grand formal dinners or in the case of Wales, a visit to the Welsh Prom.
At Association level our celebrations centred around the Open University's own 40th Anniversary event, 'Open Unlimited' when we had a special ceremony whereby we unveiled a plaque in front of our own AOUG beech tree on the Mulberry Lawn.
This special task fell to Olga Camm, then in her 90th year, who as our Founder had planted our tree with Vice Chancellor Horlock, 21 years previously. Earlier in the week Olga had been granted an honorary Masters by The Open University at the Milton Keynes ceremony. Also during the 'Open Unlimited' event, AOUG had a display about archives, a sponsored walk and a Teddy Bear trail.
All the 'Open Unlimited' celebrations were linked with the AOUG AGM weekend which was based at a hotel just opposite The Open University campus.
