The AOUG Chancellor Lord Asa Briggs Award for Arts
2006 Recipient Barbara Daniels
The AOUG Chancellor Lord Asa Briggs Award for Arts was established in 1992 and Barbara was the ninth recipient of this award. Mr Gerald Parsons introduced Barbara, who was in the final year of her research into Children's homes in Victorian Britain. The research examined the provision made by the Protestant denominations and by the Roman Catholic Church to deal with one of the pressing social problems of the age, that of homelessness and uncared for children. This work was ground breaking because there were no comparative studies of Victorian children's homes in existence.
