Matthew Jacques and Professor Uwe Grimm
AOUG Baroness Lee of Asheridge Award for Maths, Computing and Technology
2015 recipient Matthew Jacques
The AOUG Baroness Lee of Asheridge Award for Mathematics, Computing and Technology was won by Matthew Jacques for his research in Hyperbolic Geometry. Matthew’s favourite subjects at school were Physics and Chemistry, but towards the end of A-levels, he started to realise there was more to mathematics than just “the language of physics”.
Following an undergraduate degree in mathematics at the University of Sheffield and seven years in the private sector, he started a part-time MSc in mathematics at The Open University. He enjoyed the MSc immensely, and upon its completion had the opportunity to study at the OU full-time for a PhD.
