Awards for Regions and Nations 2014

Katharine Reynolds Region 01 - London

Katharine Reynolds had started a BSc in Business Management at Surrey University. She struggled on while suffering debilitating health problems and two operations, but sadly she eventually had to leave. On her mother’s advice she obtained a credit transfer and began studying with The Open University, during which time she underwent two further operations and on occasions was so weak she was dictating assignments from her hospital bed. Overcoming all these setbacks she achieved a First Class degree in Business with Accounting and fulfilled her ambition to work for a charity with a position as Fundraising Events Organiser with Age UK.

She was presented with her Award by Rosemary Hammick, Executive Representative for Region 01, and her colleague Margaret Brett at the London Regional Centre of The Open University in Camden Town, courtesy of Assistant Director Student Services, Michelle Hemming. Katharine was accompanied by her mother and grandfather, both of whom had studied with The Open University.
